While coaching new entrepreneurs I ask “What’s your mission?”, meaning what’s the point of your business, a question that usually comes right after, “What do you do?” This task is much easier if you develop a clear vision for how you intend to impact others’ lives. How do you want your clients to respond and relate to your work?
Henry Ford had a great vision and mission for his Model T – a car that was eventually parked in almost every garage. His mission was to make a car that was so affordable that even the poorest members of society could purchase a new car and they definitely did.
Your vision can be product oriented or company focused. As an entrepreneur your vision is crucial as it defines how you relate and do business with your potential clients. Close your eyes and really take a moment to breathe in your future. What do you see yourself doing and for who? I see myself speaking in front of large groups, teaching the simple financial information for building wealth that we were never taught in school. What do you see?
This is your dream. Write it down, define specifically what you really want and then give yourself 10 reasons for why you want this dream. Your ‘why’ is as important as your vision and your mission? The ‘why’ is what keeps you going when the going gets rough.
