BUILDING BIZ THROUGH YOUR
GOLDEN MISTAKES

Revealing Your Golden Stepping Stones

Episode 3 Recap

In last week’s episode we discussed mirroring and this week we begin learning the meaning of our mistakes and how they reflect back on us by revealing your golden stepping stones. Did what you learned in episode 3 surprise you? Dr. John Demartini said, “Every relationship is really part of the perfection. It’s giving you feedback to let you know what you haven’t loved in yourself and yet you’re projecting it onto other people.” Did you have an opportunity to witness Dr Demartini’s insights? What did you see in yourself as a mirror in another?

Episode 4
YOUR MISTAKES ARE YOUR GOLDEN STEPPING STONES

Remembering that mistakes are your stepping-stones to success, I believe there really are no mistakes because you don’t know what you don’t know. You only do the best you can, in that moment, with the knowledge you have already learned or been taught.

Most of us have challenges that repeat over and over again. The people involved may change, but the basis of the problem does not. These incidents are meant to teach us lessons that we may not clearly see the first, second, or third time, and they always begin with the same feelings of pain and end with a negative result.

In your journal, write out your challenging incident, but give yourself the space and time to see the error in how you perceive each of these repeated difficulties. Think about your deepest thoughts, what you might have said that you knew would cut painfully through the other person, and evaluate the actions that caused the problem to ratchet into a higher level of anger, a lack of communication, and in some cases, alienation.

Ask yourself…

  • Whom did I hurt?
  • What was I thinking?
  • What actions did I take?

Clearing Negative Thoughts for Positive Incomes

The art of clearing negative thoughts and behaviors begins with taking a bit of time to look inward through small moments of meditation. Here is where you determine the true essence of your golden stepping stones. I can hear you already: “I can’t meditate. I’ve tried that already. It doesn’t work for me.” If this is what you tell yourself, it is what you will receive. Henry Ford said, “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.” Remember, the Universe wants to make you happy, so when you say, “I can’t” to yourself, it’s exactly what you receive.

Let’s try something different. My dear friend Sterling Sumaya O’Grady says, “Yes, you can meditate. It’s in your genes.” So maybe it’s time to pull on your big-kid pants and change the way you think about this very important step in your evolution and business success.

TURNING YOUR SHIP AROUND

Together, we’re trying to turn a big ship that’s been traveling in a negative direction around into a positive direction, which will ultimately enable you to receive and live the lifestyle you deserve.

If you’ve been on a cruise ship, you know how long it takes the captain to make this massive turn. Imagine how much preparation, time, patience, and education it took to accomplish this goal. Without the required study, the captain might take out the whole pier before turning the ship’s bow out to sea. Wouldn’t you suppose he performed this same task at least 1,000 times in a simulator before being trusted to grasp the wheel?

Now is your opportunity to practice turning the ship of your life around simply by quieting your mind and simulating the changes necessary to correct and overcome your personal challenges. This valuable time allows you to look at your participation and clear your thinking in a way that brings positive outcomes.

“You are essentially who you create yourself to be and all that occurs in your life
is the result of your own making.”

Stephen Richards

PREPARING FOR PEACE & POSIBILITIES

Revealing Your Golden Stepping StonesPreparing a place to meditate is important if you want to achieve successful results. Make sure you will be undisturbed for at least five to thirty minutes. Meditation lengths vary, but they are rarely more than thirty minutes in duration. Sitting up is best. In the beginning, you’ll likely fall asleep, and that’s okay. At least you made the effort to stop the mind chatter and connect with a new way of thinking. Here are two examples; one by Ram Das and another by Wayne Dyer.

Pick a chair, mat, or a zafu (round meditation cushion) that will be comfortable for you. Sit in an erect, upright position that you can stay relaxed in. Close your eyes or focus on a lit candle. If you are outside, look out into space through the leaves of a tree.

It might be useful to stretch before settling in, even if only for a few minutes. Yoga poses or any other stretching exercises are fine; they help relax the body and allow for more energy flow. After your meditation is over, a stretch for integration is also useful.

FEELING INTO THE GOLDEN STEPPING STONES

Don’t be surprised if you begin to feel unusual physical sensations like tingling, numbness, heaviness, heat, floating, or heightened senses. You may also feel restlessness or itching. These phenomena will subside as you deepen your ability to meditate and the body becomes more accustomed to holding these energies.

Feel free to meditate as often as you wish. If you feel resistance, or if things start changing too fast for you, take a break from the meditations for a while. Follow your intuition. The number of meditations you choose to do in a week is your decision. It all depends on how quickly you want to move through your clearing exercises. For many, once a day is fine. I prefer the early morning because it’s quiet with few disturbances. Develop a consistent routine, at about the same time of day, so your body becomes accustomed to the meditative exercise.

AVOID LOOKING FOR EXPECTATIONS

Try not to have expectations about your meditations. Write down the challenge you are experiencing and ask for support before you begin. Let whatever unfolds be the right experience for you. Each time you meditate, it will be a different experience. One time you might have a wonderful experience, and the next day, a so-so experience. Don’t be discouraged if this happens.

The path of meditation holds many lessons, and one of the lessons is to be unattached to having a perfect experience every time you sit in meditation. Don’t try to recreate the same meditation by referring to a memory of your previous experiences. Let it be different each time with a fresh, new experience. Try not to make something happen; just let it unfold and stay relaxed.

If thoughts keep popping into your mind, an easy way to regain focus is by focusing on your breath while counting in rhythms of four. Learn from your ordinary meditations as well as your exhilarating ones.

JOURNAL YOUR STEPPING STONES FOR PROGRESS

Keep a pen and your journal nearby so you can write down revelations about your life, yourself, what distracting thoughts or feelings came up, and how to quiet them. Write any insights, ideas, messages, or epiphanies you receive. If people come up in your mind, send light and love to them and continue what you were doing. When someone pops up in your meditation, he or she is usually asking for support, love, or acknowledgment from you on some level or another.

If you are sleepy or have just eaten, do your meditation at another time. If, in the meditation, you are unable to follow the directions or feel as if you are rocking or floating, be at ease with this feeling and let go. Don’t come out of a floaty state because it will lead to a deeper meditation experience. Normally, you can catch the phrases in your thoughts during the meditation that are important for you to hear.

Sometimes you might forget what happened completely. You know you were meditating and things were happening, but your conscious mind might have difficulty remembering. You use the same faculties for dream recall as you do for meditation recall. As you develop the ability to translate your otherworldly experiences in conscious thought, this problem will dissipate. Just keep practicing your meditations and your recall abilities will improve.

WHAT DID YOU DISCOVER ABOUT YOUR GOLDEN STEPPING STONES?

Sitting upright during your meditation will enable you to straddle the sleep-awake border more easily. The goal of meditation is to gain the ability to straddle the sleep-awake border with full consciousness intact. This is where the “sweet spot” is the doorway to the worlds within you, and the deep stillness that is sought by spiritual candidates and teachers.

Let whatever happens in your meditation be the right experience for you on that day; it may be quite different the next time. There is no wrong way to experience a meditation. These are subjective experiences that are unique to every individual, and they vary in states of consciousness.

I look forward to reading about your meditating experiences. Next week we’ll have more discussion on the 3 Cs and meeting yourself head on to reach your ultimate goals.
